Breadchaser.ai report finds zero unbranded brand mentions in AI answers

Breadchaser.ai’s Q3 2026 AI Visibility Report found zero unbranded recommendations in 90 answers from ChatGPT, Perplexity and Claude after testing 30 buyer-intent prompts across three real businesses in three industries. Nick Montes said the test covered a marketing agency, a B2B SaaS platform and an ecommerce brand, and none of them was surfaced when its name was not already in the question.

That is the sharpest warning in the report. These were not broad curiosity prompts or vanity checks, but commercial questions meant to mirror how buyers compare vendors and narrow a shortlist. Across those 90 responses, the number of times any of the three businesses was recommended in an answer that did not already contain its name was zero. The finding points to a narrow gate inside AI answer engines: if the model does not already recognize the brand in context, it is not likely to volunteer it.

Breadchaser has spent July building a measurement language around that problem. Its July 12 playbook defined AI SEO as the practice of getting a business named and recommended inside AI answers. A July 13 piece defined share of voice in AI search as the percentage of tracked buyer prompts whose answers name your business. On July 15, the company published an audit of the best AI SEO agencies that asked ChatGPT, Perplexity and Claude which firms led the field, then fact-checked the names. A day later, Breadchaser argued that AI visibility tools can show how often assistants name a business, which competitors win instead, and which sources the engines read, but they do not change the answer.

The report lands in a category that is moving fast. Amsive published an AEO guide in 2025, HubSpot published answer engine optimization trend coverage in 2026, and an arXiv paper titled Generative Engine Optimization at Scale: Measuring Brand Visibility Across AI Search Engines shows how quickly academic and commercial interest has converged on the same measurement problem. Breadchaser’s own framing is straightforward: AI visibility is not the same as SEO rankings, and strong organic performance can still leave a brand invisible inside generated answers. For AEO teams, the practical stack now starts with entity building, authority reinforcement and consistent third-party mentions, because the systems are rewarding brands they already know.
